When a loved one needs health care at home, Forrest General Hospital's Home Care is there for you. With many locations throughout South Mississippi, our qualified team of caring professionals are able to reach patients from all over the 19-county, Forrest Health service area.
CAREing for You at Home: Forrest General Home Care provides specialized care, in the comfort of your home, when you are recovering from an illness, injury or surgery and is available for all ages.
Personalized home care is often the best course of treatment when a patient does not require the constant care provided by a hospital or nursing home.
The unique needs of a home care patient receive special attention from the home care staff. The staff consists of an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals who possess the knowledge and ability to provide superior care in any situation.
Admission
Forrest General Home Care is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Admission requires a physician's prescription, and anyone may request admission for themselves or a loved one. Home care is covered by many insurance companies for qualified individuals. We will file all claims and handle all paperwork to make your experience easier. Services are also provided under Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance). Medicaid recipients may also be eligible for home care.

Home Care Services include:
Skilled Nursing Care
A registered nurse continually evaluates a patient's needs and works closely with them and their family to determine the best ways to meet these needs. Services include:
- Teaching and supervising the family in assisting with the patient's health care needs
- Updating the primary care provider on patient status
- Coordinating services for the patient with other interdisciplinary team members
Wound/Ostomy Nursing Services
Our certified wound, ostomy and continence nurses continually evaluate and monitor a patient's wound and ostomy needs. Services include:
- Evaluating and monitoring skin and wound care needs
- Managing pressure sores
- Instructing family on wound/ostomy care
- Assisting in the management of urinary and fecal incontinence
- Controlling and managing fistulas, draining tubes and high-output wounds
Mental Health Nursing
Mental Health Nursing Services
A trained psychiatric nurse:
- Provides an initial evaluation under the direction of the treating physician
- Schedules follow-up visits
- Facilitates supportive psychotherapy, manages medication and monitors therapeutic drugs
Intravenous Therapy
Specially-trained nurses, under the direction of the patient's primary care provider, provide intravenous therapy for patients. Services include:
- Offering clinical pharmacy services
- Providing reimbursement management
Therapies provided include:
- IV antibiotic and antiviral
- Hydration
- Parenteral nutrition
- Pain management
- IV immunoglobulin
Physical Therapy
Registered physical therapists assist in patient care and rehabilitation as prescribed by the patient's physician. Services include:
- Planning and implementing a restorative exercise program
- Training in transfer, gait and prosthetics
- Evaluating the home environment and recommending modifications for safety
- Evaluating for use of equipment
- Instructing patient and family on how to continue the prescribed exercise program
- Monitoring and reporting patient's progress to their physician
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists assist the physician in determining a patient's ability to perform activities of daily living and help patients regain independence through teaching self-care activities
.Services include:
- Evaluating fine motor skills
- Determining need for prosthetic devices
- Teaching self-care activities such as dressing,cooking and writing
- Coaching a patient on the use of prosthetics,braces and assistive devices
- Developing a therapeutic plan with the patient and their family
- Monitoring and reporting the patient's progress to their physician
Speech Therapy
A master's level speech pathologist, certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association, provides speech therapy to qualified patients. Services include:
- Assisting the physician in the evaluation of speech or language problems
- Recommending corrective therapy
- Planning a program to improve or reestablish verbal communication
- Assisting with swallowing disorders
- Teaching patients and families how to participate in a therapy program
Medical Social Services
Home care social workers assist in evaluating social and emotional factors that affect a patient's health. Services include:
- Helping the patient understand, accept and follow the physician's plan of care
- Working with community resources to provide the best possible living environment
- Assistance in locating alternative financing for medication and other medical needs
Certified Diabetic Educator
A specially-trained clinician, certified in diabetes education, will provide evaluation and individualized instruction for patients with diabetes. Services include:
- Assessing the patient's condition
- Educating individual on disease management
- Setting individual goals
- Making food and nutrition recommendations
- Evaluating outcomes
Personal Care Services
A nursing assistant, under the supervision of a registered nurse, provides patients with personal care services to ensure a safe environment.Services include:
- Assisting with bathing
- Aiding in dressing
- Assisting with exercise programs
- Assisting with other activities of daily living
