Forrest Health Names DAISY Award Winner for January

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (February 6, 2024) Forrest Health has named Marcus Price, LPN, who works on 8T, as its DAISY Award winner for January. The DAISY award, which is presented monthly to a deserving nurse or nurses, exemplifies clinical expertise and compassionate care and is recognized as a role model in the nursing community.

Marcus’ nominator described him as a “great nurse who is energized by doing his best for his patients. He also has great stories about his nursing experiences. Most importantly, he strives to be a good person and succeeds. Marcus gets to know his patients individually, as well as their families. He dedicates as much time as needed to make them feel comfortable, to educate them, and answer questions. He sits with patients to comfort them, communicates with them, and advocates tirelessly for them. He can be found walking the halls checking on his patients often.

“Marcus is always willing to help out by taking equipment to his floor that has been requested by his colleagues,” his nominator said. “I don’t think there has ever been a time that he has told me ‘no’ or ‘I can’t.’ Marcus inquires as to how people are doing and how their night is going. While these seem like such small things, he has the heart of an angel. He is truly the best of what nursing should be.”

Marcus, a Forrest General Hospital employee for 20 years, lives in Oak Grove, and received his nursing degree from Jones College. “My mom had dreams of being a nurse, but wasn’t able to do it, so I’m fulfilling that dream,” he said.

“A nurse, like Marcus, and others, who have been nominated for and honored with the DAISY Award during the past year, are an integral part of what makes Forrest Health such a caring and compassionate place for your healthcare needs,” said Phyllis Chambers-Berry, Forrest Health vice president. “I am so proud of Marcus and how hard he works to make our Forrest General patients feel appreciated and cared for in such a warm manner.”
