Forrest Health Names DAISY Award Winner for April
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (May 2, 2024) Forrest Health has named Ramsey Roberts, RN, who works in Rapid Response, as its DAISY Award winner for April. The DAISY award, which is presented monthly to a deserving nurse or nurses, exemplifies clinical expertise and compassionate care and is recognized as a role model in the nursing community.
“Ramsey is not only a phenomenal nurse, but he is also a one-of-a-kind human being,” said his nominator. “I haven’t been a nurse for long, but I can tell you I could not do my job without him. When I started as a nightshift nurse, I was fresh out of orientation and scared of being on my own. I learned quickly that working with the nurses on 5T and Ramsey that I am really never on my own. The first ‘rapid’ I ever had to call, Ramsey responded quickly and efficiently. He made sure to explain to me everything that was going on in great detail, while remaining calm and keeping me and the patient calm, as he does every time he is called to our floor.”
“Anytime any of us have questions, Ramsey takes the time to not only answer the question, but he also breaks it down to make sure we all understand it thoroughly. There is never a question too big or too small for him, and if it is something that he doesn’t know, he makes sure we all learn the answer together. He has never made any of us feel less for not knowing something, either.”
The nominator believes Ramsey is the BEST teacher and coworker. “All of the patients love him and know him by name because of how kind and compassionate he is with the patients during some of their hardest times. You never know the weight he carries on his back, taking care of a lot of those in the hospital, because he always makes time for everyone. He always has the biggest smile on his face while doing it. We are extremely lucky to have Ramsey at Forrest General.”
Ramsey, who received his degree from Pearl River Community College, has been employed at Forrest General for 12 years. The Sumrall resident said he chose a career in nursing because he wanted to help people.
“I watched my grandfather pass away and decided I wanted to be that person to be with that family and that patient,” he said. He describes his job in Rapid Response as awesome. “It’s my favorite job. I am old school ER and ICU, but as far as all the jobs, this is my favorite,” Ramsey said. “I get a little bit of everything. I get ER, I get ICU, I get to help everybody. I get to go through the whole hospital. I get to help the babies, the pregnant women, with the sick patients and the not-so-sick patients, because even the little things – lab draws and things like that – I enjoy it all.”
“A nurse, like Ramsey, and others, who have been nominated for and honored with the DAISY Award during the past year, are an integral part of what makes Forrest Health such a caring and compassionate place for your healthcare needs,” said Phyllis Chambers-Berry, Forrest Health vice president. “I am so proud of Ramsey and how hard he works to make our Forrest General patients feel appreciated and cared for in such a warm manner.”
