Forrest General Hospital Named High Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (July 29, 2024) Forrest General Hospital has been named a High Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Reports Best Hospitals 2024-2025 ratings and rankings which were released on Tuesday. This is the highest rating a hospital can earn for the publication’s Procedures and Conditions ratings.

Forrest General was recognized as a High Performing hospital for providing high quality care in the following categories: nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, and stroke.

“We are honored to receive this national recognition for Forrest General,” said Millie Swan, Forrest Health vice president. “Our physicians and healthcare staff continue to be focused on providing excellent and compassionate care to our patients. Their dedication makes recognitions such as these possible.”

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings help assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

Of the more than 4,500 hospitals that U.S. News & World Report evaluated, only 38% earned even a single High Performing rating.

The Best Hospitals rankings are broken into two subcomponents – specialty rankings and procedure and condition ratings. Understanding which is more relevant to you depends on the medical condition for which you’re seeking hospital quality information.

The Best Hospitals specialty rankings are meant for patients with life-threatening or rare conditions who need a hospital that excels in treating complex, high-risk cases. These rankings are helpful if you’re looking for information about a rare condition or difficult diagnosis that isn’t treated at many facilities.

Hospitals are ranked from 1 to 50 in each of 15 specialties. Hospitals not in the top 50 in each specialty, but still in the top 10% of all rated hospitals, receive a designation of “high performing.”

To calculate the rankings, U.S. News & World Report evaluated each healthcare facility’s performance on objective criteria such as preventable complications, level of nursing care, and risk-adjusted mortality rates. The rankings are based on data from millions of records provided by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

This is the 35th year for this comprehensive evaluation of almost 5,000 hospitals nationwide.
